This is a Climate Catastrophe and we have to wake up to it.
Our lungs are on fire. Literally. Forests in Greenland, Siberia and Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey, The Canary Islands, Bolivia, Alaska are burning.
July 2019 was the hottest month on record.
Politics and Politicians are at fault but to quote Gowri Varanashi “What people are not realizing is that it is also a lack of education/awareness and a global issue that we are all a part of. Fires and deforestation is occurring on a daily basis in these regions of Amazonia. Most farmers are not aware of the consequences and just want to earn a living.”
So what can we do? Being so far away, how can we help and what changes can we make in order to bring about a difference?
“Changes have to come from within the entire system of how countries run things, demand of certain products globally (which means all of us and what we buy) and ways to help these people find better methods of earning/farming that is less impactful.”
We all have a part to play in this and the power is in our hands.
Email your MEP’s to ask for trade sanctions against Brazil based on Bolsorano’s activities in the Amazon.
The Indigenous leaders in Brazil called for this in December last year. Hopefully it isn’t too late!
